◅✦Blackfoot✦▻ is a bison in which I chose to mosaic the horn caps. Reason being, it was a VERY old animal... you can tell not only by its size but the bone calcification, specifically around the eye sockets, as well as the fusing of bone where there are fissures in younger animals, such as along the center of skull and the nose bone.

Stained glass (lots of iridescent) covers the entire surface area of the horns. I used a rust patina on the bone surface to highlight all of the amazing texture. The idea to use barbed wire came to mind and I think it finished the piece perfectly.

Now that it’s complete, I’ve been thinking a lot about the plains Indians, a time before rust and fencing even existed, a time when bison roamed free and fed their people. There’s somewhat of a melancholy metaphor here, so I decided to name him ‘Blackfoot’.

Ready to hang, stud required.
